JOANNA – Janet Hagopian
Janet Hagopian, a distinguished artist, was born in Khoramshahr, Iran, in 1967. Hailing from Armenian roots, she embarked on her artistic journey in her homeland and culminated her studies at the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre in 1995, achieving a Master’s degree in Decorative Applied Arts.

Following her academic success, Hagopian ventured to Lebanon, where she assumed the pivotal role of Art Director at the Toros Roslin Art Academy within the Hamazkayin Art Centre from 2007 to 2011. This period marked a significant chapter in her career, as she not only contributed to the artistic community but also enriched her own creative spirit.

Janet Hagopian’s artistic philosophy is encapsulated in her profound focus on the structural elements of her imaginative shapes and vibrant colors. Through meticulous attention to detail, she crafts powerful compositions that invite viewers to transcend the confines of reality. Her work serves as a contemplative journey, encouraging reflection on themes of isolation and existentialism.

Currently residing and working in Lebanon, Hagopian continues to captivate audiences with her unique artistic vision. Her creations beckon individuals to explore the depths of their own consciousness, fostering a profound connection between the artist and the observer. Janet Hagopian’s contributions to the world of fine arts stand as a testament to her unwavering commitment to both creativity and introspection.

Statement
In my work, I pay great attention to the structure of forms, shapes, and colors, which creates the inhabitable space that starts to resemble story and life experience,  behind the composition.

The idea of using this object and shapes is to allow the viewer to detach themselves from the notion of normality and question their reason for existence. These beautiful shapes symbolize the idea of isolation when settled in this adequate position.

Each piece is composed of various layers and conveys the concept of the painting. My imagination explores and displays shape variations in order to communicate a strong composition. Painting these shapes may be challenging, but has the advantage of allowing the viewer to observe without feeling restricted or constrained.
